Smith Finishes Season At State Cross Country Championships

FORT?DODGE – For freshman Olivia Smith, her first season of varsity cross country concluded Saturday at the Iowa High School Cross Country Championships. Smith competed with 130 Class 1A competitors in running the course at the Lakeside Golf Course at Kennedy Park, north of Fort Dodge.

Smith would complete the course in a time of 17:18, which earned her the 87th finishing position in her first-ever state event.

“I had fun,”?Smith said after the meet. “It was what I expected, but I wish I could have had a better time.”

“Olivia did a great job as a freshman for her first state meet,” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Valerie Pickett. “She will be a great team leader for us next season. I’m already looking forward to it.”
