Freshmen E-Hawks End Grid Season
Emmetsburg’s Freshman football team closed out it’s season with a pair of wins over Cherokee and Estherville Lincoln Central. The wins end the season with a 6-2 mark for Coach Tyler Beving’s squad.
On Oct. 14, the Freshmen earned a 28-0 win in an abbreviated game with Cherokee that lasted two quarters.
In that abbreviated game, Greg Wesley ran for 113 yards with one touchdown, while Jacob Kibbie added 61 yards and a touchdown. Also scoring touchdowns were Zach Anderson and Caige Elbert.
Defensively, Luke Jackson had a quarterback sack and six tackles, while Jacob Miller added seven tackles and Greg Wesley had five stops.
The season concluded with a thrilling, come-from-behind win over Estherville Lincoln Central on Oct. 17 by a 36-30 score.
Trailing 30-28 with less than 2:00 to play, Emmetsburg marched downfield to score and then added the two-point conversion to secure the most-satisfying victory.
Greg Wesley led the offense with 211 yards and scored three touchdowns while Jacob Kibbie added 88 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Greg Wesley had 18 yards receiving and Jacob Miller made a huge 14 yard first down catch on the final, game-winning drive to put the ball on the goal line.
Jacob Miller and Greg Wesley both made eight tackles and Jacob Kibbie added six stops to the defensive effort.
“We finished the season 6-2 and these guys got better each and every week,” noted Freshman Coach Tyler Beving. “I am very proud of them on how they conducted themselves throughout the year and how hard they worked to better themselves as football players and student-athletes.”
