Postseason Begins, Ends For Lady E-Hawks

BRITT – The start of postseason play gives every team an opportunity to start a second season. But for Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks, the second season only lasted one evening in a 3-1 loss to West Hancock, bringing Emmetsburg’s season to close with a game record of 3-25.

“I thought the girls worked hard in the match and felt we had our opportunities,”?noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Andrea Accola-Sabin. “I feel bad for our two seniors, Jayme Penrod and Paige Naig, because they’ve worked so hard this season and been great leaders for the team. They will be missed next season.”

Emmetsburg got off to a rough start against West Hancock, losing the first game by an 11-25 score before coming back to play the Eagles close in a 20-25 setback. In game three, the Lady E-Hawks persevered for a 26-24 win, only to see the Eagles go on a 13-point run to take the match with a 25-13 final score.

At the serving line, Shelby Brindley was perfect on the night with 14 of 14 serves and three aces, while Paige Naig added 13 of 16 serves with two aces. Miranda Vlasman made 10 of 10 serves with four aces, while Alexa Naig added 10 of 12 serves and one ace. Britni Will came up with nine of 11 serves and four aces and Jayme Penrod capped off the effort with eight of eight serves, giving the Lady E-Hawks 64 of 71 serves, 90.1 percent serving.

At the net, Paige Naig made 26 of 29 hits with 11 kills and a solo block, while Jayme Penrod followed with 25 of 27 hits and five kills.

Miranda Vlasman made 18 of 23 hits with three kills and Jacque Carlson added 13 of 16 hits with four kills to her credit. Shelby Brindley added 10 of 11 hits with three kills and Alexa Naig came away wit five of six hits and a kill, along with a solo block.

Seniors Paige Naig and Jayme Penrod would both dig out 15 shots each defensively in the match, while Miranda Vlasman dug out 11 shots and Britni Will added 10 digs to the effort.

Alexa Naig would dig out seven shots and Shelby Brindley came away with four digs.

Shelby Brindley handed out 12 set assists in the match and Alexa Naig would close out the effort with nine assists.
