E-Hawks Preparing For Warriors

By Staff | Oct 13, 2011

With the regular season winding down rapidly, the Emmetsburg E-Hawks continue to prepare methodically for their upcoming opponents each week. This Friday, the E-Hawks make their final road trip of the regular season, traveling to Alta to take on the Warriors of Alta-Aurelia.

Even though the Warriors are winless so far in Class 1A District Two action this season, they have a win in non-district play, and are a worthy opponent for the E-Hawks come Friday night.

“Alta-Aurelia works out of the Double Wing offense,” noted E-Hawk Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “They use the super toss and they also have the fourth-best running back in the state in the back field.”

Last season, in their first meeting, the E-Hawks handled Alta-Aurelia by a 51-14 score at Emmetsburg, but this year, the E-Hawks are playing on unfamiliar turf at Alta.

“Defensively, they will work out of the 4/4, or they’ll go with a five-man front, bringing a backer up,”?Dunlap noted.

The E-Hawk mentor noted that Alta-Aurelia has respectable size in the lineup, so the E-Hawks must be focused and ready to play come Friday.

“The key to this game is going to be focus, effort and discipline,” Dunlap said.”We must play very disciplined assignment football on both the offense and defense. We’ve got to get off to a quick start and play as a focused, disciplined football team.”
