E-Hawks Readying For Homecoming Contest

By Staff | Oct 6, 2011

After facing their stiffest challenge of the season last Friday in a 20-13 win over West Lyon, Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks have the distractions of Homecoming week to contend with as they prepare for this Friday’s game.

The Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan will come to Duane Twait Field on Friday with a 3-3 record that is not an adequate representation of the team.

“Sibley-Ocheyedan is an awfully good 3-3 football team,” admitted Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “Their record really doesn’t represent how good they are.”

The Generals are currently locked in a tie with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in Class 1A District Two with two district losses.

“They have great size up front on both the offensive and defensive lines,”?Dunlap noted. “They also have very talented skill players in their lineup. They operate out of the inside and outside zones and work from the shotgun on offense.”

Dunlap continued, “They have the leading passer in the district and three of the top five receivers as well on offense.”

Sibley-Ocheyedan’s defense will be familiar to the E-Hawks, according to the Emmetsburg mentor.

“They work out of the 4/4 and 6/2 defenses which we’ve seen before,”?Dunlap noted.

With Homecoming activities, there are outside distractions for players and staff, and Dunlap knows what needs to happen during practic this week.

“For us, the key to the game is going to be focus, effort and discipline,” Dunlap noted. “We have to clean up some things on special teams, and we have to continue to play very, very well on both the offensive and defensive lines.”

Dunlap also knows it will be important for the E-Hawks to continue to focus on the task at hand.

“We must play very disciplined assignment football on both the offense and defense,” Dunlap said. We’ve got to get off to a quick start and play as a focused, disciplined football team.”
