E-Hawk Harriers Earn Second At Eagle Grove Invitational
EAGLE?GROVE – “It was an awesome effort last night by both squads!” exclaimed Emmetsburg Cross Country Coach Valerie Pickett.
The Emmetsburg harriers came home from the highly-competitive Eagle Grove Invitational on Tuesday night with a second place finish in the Class 1A Boys competition, while the girls squad earned a seventh place finish in the Class 1A event as well.
“It was nice to see where we matched up against other 1A schools with the District meet coming up in a couple of weeks,”?Coach Pickett noted. “Now we turn our attention towards the Lakes Conference meet next week.”
In the boys race, the two classes of runners competed together but were split up by class. Emmetsburg’s squad claimed the runner-up honors out of the nine Class 1A teams that took part in the event and earned a team medal for the finish.
Senior Zach Overberg led the E-Hawk effort with a 13th place finishing time of 19:18. Chad Loomis was close behind with a 19:35 clocking to earn 16th place honors.
Austin Lietz would finish in 19th place with his time of 19:58 and Marcel Pohlmann was right behind his teammate with a tie of 20:04, good for 20th finishing position.
Max Jones would run a 20:06 time to finish in 21st place, while Dan Pelzer took 22nd place with a 20:08 clocking. Rounding out Emmetsburg’s varsity runners’ efforts was Brett Steinkamp with a 24:38 time, good for 61st place.
In the Junior Varsity competition, Mike Pugh ran a 24:44 time for 103rd place and Brian James finished in 118th place with a 26:46 clocking.
The Lady E-Hawks would earn seventh place in the team standings out of the nine teams competing.
Freshman runner Caroline Fantz paced Emmetsburg’s efforts on Tuesday with her 18:47 clocking to place 18th overall. Teammate Olivia Smith finished in 24th place with a time of 19:16, while Taylor Reimer would run a 19:53 to earn 35th place.
Senior captain Kristi Wurzer would finish 41st with a time of 20:17, with Rachel Ruddy finishing 45th in a time of 20:47. Hadley Egland ran a 21:32 time to place 51st overall and Madison Reimer would finish in 62nd place with a time of 23.21.
