Lady E-Hawks Play At ELC?Tourney

ESTHERVILLE – Playing some top-quality teams proved to be a big challenge to Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks at the Estherville Lincoln Central Tournament on Saturday. The Lady E-Hawks fell 3-0 in pool play, losing hard-fought contests to Harris-Lake Park, Storm Lake and Laurens-Marathon. Also participating in the tournament were Graettinger/Terril, Humboldt, Sioux City West and Estherville Lincoln Central.

In the opener, Emmetsburg battled Harris-Lake Park to a 2-1 decision, falling in game one 15-21, but rallying to take game two by a 21-15 score before being edged 13-15 in the deciding game of the match.

Jayme Penrod made 15 of 16 serves with an ace, while Shelby Brindley added eight of eight serves with two aces. Paige Naig completed seven of seven serves with an ace while Miranda Vlasman and Jacque Carlson both made five of five serves with an ace.

Tegan Olson had two of three serves and Alexa Naig made two of four, with Britni Will adding one serve to the effort.

At the net, Jayme Penrod made 16 of 18 hits with four kills and Jacque Carlson added eight of nit with three kills. Miranda Vlasman had seven of nine hits with three kills and Tegan Olson added seven of eight with three kills. Paige Naig connected on six of eight hits with three kills, while Shelby Brindley had a hit for a kill and Alexa Naig added a hit.

Shelby Brindley handed out eight set assists while Tegan Olson made three and Jayme Penrod, Jacque Carlson and Alexa Naig all handed out one helper. Jayme Penrod dug out 10 shots, while Paige Naig added eight digs in the match, Miranda Vlasman dug out ive shots, with Jacque Carlson adding four digs. Alexa Naig had three digs and Shelby Brindley came up with two digs.

Against Lakes Conference foe Storm Lake, Emmetsburg fell by scores of 15-21 and 8-21.

Miranda Vlasman would make six of six serves while Jayme Penrod added four of four serves with an ace and Jacque Carlson made four of six with an ace. Tegan Olson added three serves, with Shelby Brindley making two serves with an ace and Paige Naig added two service completions.

At the net, Miranda Vlasman made nine of nine hits with two kills. Paige Naig had six of eight hits with four kills and Tegan Olson added six of eight hits with a kill. Jacque Carlson added four hits, while Jayme Penrod and Shelby Brindley both made one hit.

Paige Naig had five digs, while Miranda Vlasman and Shelby Brindley both dug out four shots. Brindley also made four set assists and Alexa Naig made two.

In their final pool match, the Lady E-Hawks would meet up with Laurens-Marathon. Emmetsburg took the first game by a 21-18 score, but lost the second by a 17-21 tally and then fell in the deciding third game by a 6-15 score.

Jacque Carlson would set the pace at the serving line, making 11 of 12 serves with four aces, while Jayme Penrod added eight of nine serves with an ace. Shelby Brindley made seven of eight serves and Paige Naig came away with five of six service completions and two aces.

Miranda Vlasman made three of five serves with an ace and Tegan Olson added three of five serves as well.

At the net, Paige Naig made 14 of 16 hits with three kills, while Miranda Vlasman hammered 13 of 13 hits with five kills. Tegan Olson added 12 of 13 hits with three kills to the effort, while Jayme Penrod added nine of 11 hits and a kill.

Jacque Carlson made four of five hits with two kills and Shelby Brindley added one hit to the cause.

Jayme Penrod would dig out eight shots in the match, with Paige Naig and Britni Will each digging out six shots. Miranda Vlasman, Jacque Carlson, Shelby Brindley and Alexa Naig all had three digs and Tegan Olson dug out one shot.

Shelby Brindley would hand out nine set assists to her teammates and Alexa Naig added four helpers.

The Lady E-Hawks will see action on Thursday of this week when the travel to Spencer to meet the Tigers in Lakes Conference action.
