New Personal Records Set At Algona Invite
ALGONA? – A new course meant several new personal best efforts for Emmetsburg’s Cross Country runners at Monday’s Algona Invitational. After many years of running at the Whittemore Country Club, the meet was moved to the River Road Golf Course and run under blustery conditions Monday evening.
“We had a great night on the ladies side, with lots of new personal records being set,”?noted Emmetsburg Coach Valerie Pickett.
The Lady E-Hawk runners would end up finishing 15th out of the 16-team field that competed in the varsity portion of the event.
Leading Emmetsburg on this night was freshman Caroline Fantz, who edged out a Fairmont, MN runner at the finish line to post a time of 17:42, a new personal record for Fantz, who earned 64th place with the time.
Taylor Reimer would finish 70th with a time of 18:04, while Olivia Smith was 81st with an 18:44 clocking.
Hadley Egland set a new personal record with her time of 18:44 that was good for 82nd place behind her teammate.
Also setting a new personal record time was senior Kristi Wurzer, who finished 84th with a time of 18:48. Rachel Ruddy also set a new personal record with her 19:10 clocking for 91st place.
Capping off the Lady E-Hawks’ finishes was Madison Reimer, who earned a 21:27 time, a new personal record, and finished in 109th place.
Emmetsburg’s E-Hawk boys were without the services of senior Chad Loomis on Monday, but ran to an 11th place finish in the 15-team Varsity boys field.
Senior Zach Overberg would complete the course in 18:04, which was good for a 39th place finish. Exchange student Marcel Pohlmann finished 70th with his time of 19:13.
Max Jones would lead a three-man pack of E-Hawks to the finish line, as he was clocked in at 19:49 to finish 83rd, while Austin Lietz was a footstep behind in 84th place with a 19:49 time and Dan Pelzer turned in a time of 19:50 to finish in 85 th place, rounding out the varsity finishes.
In the Junior Varsity race, Mike Pugh would finish in 110th place with his time of 22:34, while teammate Brian James set a new personal record with his time of 25:40 to finish 139th.
Ashley Overberg ran in the Middle School competition on Monday and finished third overall with her time of 13:13.
“We are starting to drop our mileage in training so hopefully the guys will start dropping their times in the next couple of meets as well,” noted Coach Pickett.
Emmetsburg will travel to Eagle Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
