E-Hawks Ready For West Lyon

By Staff | Sep 29, 2011

If there was one game to circle on the Emmetsburg football schedule for this season, it would be this Friday’s game with West Lyon.

The E-Hawks and Wildcats know each other well – and remember each other equally as well, as they two squads split last season..

But memories must be forgotten this Friday night.

“West Lyon is a big, physical team with great team speed, good offensive and defensive lines and the leading receiver in the district,” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “They’re 4-1, with a loss to Central Lyon. We know what they do offensively, they run the halfback dive, halfback dive, the option, almost like a triple option but it isn’t. They also throw the football.”

That familiarity with West Lyon means that Emmetsburg knows what to expect in the offensive attack of the Wildcats.

“They run the belly, belly keep, dive, drops and run the tailback belly, bootleg and the pass,” Dunlap reiterated. “They are very fundamentally sound and very well coached.”

Defensively, West Lyon will operate in the 4-3 and 5-2 alignments, but the E-Hawks must be ready for anything. “They will change up their defense as we come to the line, so we have to be ready,” Dunlap said.

For Emmetsburg, the key will be playing with great discipline once again.

“We must play very disciplined assignment football on both the offense and defense,” Dunlap said. We’ve got to get off to a quick start and play as a focused, disciplined football team on both the offensive and defensive lines.”
