Lady E-Hawks Battle Hard At Humboldt Invitational

HUMBOLDT – The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks would go 1-5 in matches at Saturday’s Humboldt Invitational volleyball tournament.

The Lady E-Hawks opened their day by meeting the host Wildcats of Humboldt and fell by game scores of 18-21 and 13-21.

Britni Will led the serving with nine of nine serves and an ace, while Miranda Vlasman made six of six with an ace. Jacque Carlson added five of six serves with an ace while Jayme Penrod added four serves and Paige Naig and Shelby Brindley both made three serves.

At the net, Paige Naig had 13 of 13 hits with three kills while Miranda Vlasman added nine of 12 hits with three kills. Jayme Penrod made six of eight hits with three kills and Jacque Carlson made five of seven hits with a kill. Tegan Olson had two hits and a kill and Shelby Brindley added two hits. Miranda Vlasman would dig out nine shots, while Paige Naig added four digs and a blocked shot. Jayme Penrod had three digs and an assist, while Jacque Carlson added three digs. Shelby Brindley made seven assists, while Britni Will had three digs and Tegan Olson added one assist.

Against West Bend-Mallard, the Lady E-Hawks fell by scores of 17-21 and 11-21.

Britni Will again led the serving with six of six serves and an ace, while Brindley and Vlasman also added six of six serves. Jacque Carlson made five of five serves with an ace, while Naig, Penrod and Tegan Olson all added one service completion.

Jacque Carlson made eight of nine hits with two kills and Penrod added seven of eight hits with three kills. Miranda Vlasman made seven of seven hits with three kills and Naig added five of five hits with a kill. Tegan Olson chipped in three hits with a kill and Brindley added a hit.

Jacque Carlson, Vlasman and Naig all dug out five shots, while Penrod had four digs and Olson, Brindley and Will all had one dig. Shelby Brindley handed out eight assists in the effort.

Against NSK/AR, the Lady E-Hawks fell by scores of 12-21 and 17-21.

Jayme Penrod made eight of eight serves with an ace and Carlson added six of six serves with two aces. Shelby Brindley had four of five serves with an ace, while Paige Naig added three serves. Miranda Vlasman and Britni Will both had two serves and Alexa Naig added one serve.

Miranda Vlasman made eight of 10 hits with one kill and Paige Naig made seven hits with three kills. Jayme Penrod had four hits, while Carlson added three hits and Olson had two hits.

Paige Naig had three blocks and four digs, while Penrod added five digs and a block. Miranda Vlasman made four digs and a block and Olson made a block, while Brindley added two digs and five assists and Alexa Naig had one assist.

Emmetsburg’s lone match win of the day came against Ogden, as they claimed game wins of 21-10 and 21-15.

Jayme Penrod made nine serves with an ace, while Carlson added eight serves with three aces. Shelby Brindley had seven serves with an ace while Will and Vlasman both had four serves with two aces each. Alexa Naig made three serves with an ace and Paige Naig had one serve.

Miranda Vlasman made 14 hits with five kills while Paige Naig added 13 hits with seven kills. Jayme Penrod added six hits with a kill and Jacque Carlson made three hits. Tegan Olson and Ashley Morris added two hits each and Brindley had one hit.

Miranda Vlasman had five digs, while Carlson added four digs and an assist. Shelby Brindley had four digs and seven assists, while Penrod had three digs. Paige Naig added two digs and an assist while Ashley Morris had two assists. Alexa Naig and Olson both had one assist.

Against Prairie Valley, Emmetsburg fell by 14-21 and 11-21 scores. Shelby Brindley made seven of eight serves, while Vlasman had five serves and Will made four serves. Jayme Penrod connected on three serves along with Carlson and Paige Naig added two serves.

Miranda Vlasman had 11 hits and a kill and Naig added eight hits and three kills. Jacque Carlson had six hits and a kill and Olson added four hits with two kills, while Penrod had four hits and a kill. Paige Naig and Penrod both assisted on a block, and each had three digs along with Carlson. Shelby Brindley had five digs and made eight assists and Vlasman had two digs.

In their final match of the tournament, Emmetsburg fell to South Central Calhoun by scores of 8-21 and 15-21.

Paige Naig made five serves while Jayme Penrod added four serves with two aces. Miranda Vlasman, Jacque Carlson and Britni Will all added four serves, with Carlson and Will both garnering an ace as well. Shelby Brindley added one serve completion to the effort.

At the net, Miranda Vlasman made seven hits while Penrod and Carlson both had four hits with a kill and Tegan Olson added four hits with two kills. Shelby Brindley had two hits and two kills and Paige Naig added one hit.

Paige Naig had a solo and an assisted block and Shelby Brindley assisted on a block. Brindley would also dig out two shots and issue four assists.

Jayme Penrod had five assists, while Naig and Vlasman both had two digs and Carlson added one dig. Paige Naig added one assist to the effort.

Emmetsburg returns to Lakes Conference action tonight (Tuesday) when they travel to Estherville Lincoln Central to take on the Midgettes.
