WESLEY – The Graettinger/Terril Knights collected a 3-0 sweep over Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne in Cornbelt Conference volleyball action Tuesday night. Game scores were 27-25, 25-14 and 25-23 in favor of the Knights in the hotly-contested match.

“The Knights played with enthusiasm and heart Tuesday against the CWL Panthers,” noted G/T Head Coach Tiffany Johnston. ” The Knights played aggressive at the net, and made the court look small with their scrappy playing.”

For the Knights, Nikki Brown connected on 12 kills, while Amanda Aeilts added eight kills to the tally.

At the serving line, Morgan Mortenson made 17 of 18 serves with seven aces and teammate Hailley Nelson also made 17 of 18 serves and garnered one ace.

Alyssa Hoffman added 10 of 11 service completions with an ace as well.

Hailley Nelson would dish out 19 set assists to her teammates on the night as well.

Defensively, Nikki Brown fielded 11 serves, while Callie Herke handled 10 serves and Morgan Mortenson fielded nine serves from the Panthers.

Morgan Mortenson and Nikki Brown would both dig out six shots each during the match victory for the Knights.

“Junior Amanda Aeilts came on strong for the Knights with strong hitting and consistent serving,” Coach Johnston noted. “Senior setter Hailley Nelson covered the court well by mixing up her assists to keep the Panthers guessing on the other side of the net. We also relied on senior Morgan Mortenson’s spot serving and senior middle hitter Nikki Brown’s strong hitting ability.”

Johnston continued, “I was also very impressed with the Knights ability to find the holes and place the ball to earn points tonight. Overall, Tuesday was a fun match to watch and a nice conference win for the Lady Knights.”
