E-Hawk JV Gridders Perfect On Year

By Staff | Sep 22, 2011

Emmetsburg’s Junior Varsity E-Hawk football team improved its season mark to 4-0 with a pair of wins in recent games. On Monday, Sept 12, the E-Hawks handed Okoboji a 60-20 defeat in action at Duane Twait Field and on Monday, Sept. 19, Coach Dave Fog’s E-Hawks handed Spirit Lake a 44-0 loss.

Against Okoboji on Sept. 12, the JV squad welcomed several freshmen and sophomores into the ranks after Okoboji was unable to field a freshman team.

The corroboration worked well for Emmetsburg as the E-Hawks took an early lead in the opening quarter off an Aaron Bird touchdown run. Brady Christensen ran in the conversion for a quick 8-0 lead that would hold through the first frame.

In the second quarter, Brady Christensen would score off a two yard run, but the conversion try failed, giving Emmetsburg a 14-0 lead.

After a quick three and out, Emmetsburg got the ball back and it was Christensen to the end zone again off a seven yard jog. The conversion came up short, making the score 20-0 in the favor of the E-Hawks.

Emmetsburg would see Christensen in the end zone again as he would score off an 11-yard run, and Brandon Elbert ran in the conversion for a 28-0 score.

With time running down in the first half, Christensen took off to score on a 27-yard run and Alan Jensen tacked on the conversion run for a 36-0 lead at the intermission.

The second half seemed to be a rerun, as Emmetsburg scored quickly off a one-yard plunged by Allen Jensen, who then ran in his conversion for a 44-0 lead.

With a huge lead to start the fourth quarter, the E-Hawk Freshmen took over and quickly scored off an eight-yard run by Jacob Kibbie and a conversion run from Greg Wesley to make the score 52-0.

Okoboji erased the goose-egg on the scoreboard off a long passing touchdown for a 52-7 score, but Emmetsburg answered back with a 25 yard run by Wesley for a score and Zach Anderson’s run for the 60-7 score.

Okoboji would add a pair of late touchdowns to cut the deficit to 60-20.

The E-Hawks had 432 yards rushing and 26 yards passing yards in the win.

Brady Christensen racked up 239 yards, while Brandon Elbert had 52 yards. Allen Jensen gained 26 yards and Tyler Henson ran for 20 yards.

On defense, Greg Wesley and Shay Mortenson intercepted passes and Allen Jensen recovered a fumble.

This past Monday, Emmetsburg took a 44-0 win over Spirit Lake.

Aaron Bird would score off a one-yard run and Brandon Elbert ran the conversion for an 8-0 lead in the first quarter after the opening drive had stalled.

In the second quarter, Allen Jensen ripped off a 79 yard run and Elbert added the conversion before Jenson tacked on a two-yard dive for a score before the half for a 22-0 lead.

Allen Jensen picked up where he left off in the second half, scoring off a four-yard run and Brandon Elbert added the PAT for a 30-0 lead and then Jensen put one more score in the books off a one-yard dive, with Aaron Bird adding the conversion for a 38-0 lead.

Aaron Bird would earn the E-Hawks’ final points with a four-yard touchdown run in the final quarter for the 44-0 victory.

The E-Hawks racked up 362 yards rushing, with Allen Jensen accounting for 204 of those yards. Aaron Bird added 80 yards, with Brady Christensen gaining 38 yard and Brandon Elbert and Clayton Henderson both rushing for 20 yards.

On Defense, Christensen and Bird both recovered fumbles, while Tanner Dahm recorded three quarterback sacks and Cody Henderson had two 2 sacks.
