Perfect Weather For E-Hawk Invitational
Emmetsburg’s Cross Country teams were perfect hosts for Monday’s E-Hawk Cross Country Invitational. The weather was perfect, the course friendly, but yet the E-Hawks were also highly competitive in the event at the Five Island Golf Course.
The E-Hawk varsity boys Varsity Boys would finish in third place overall, with a pair of medalists. Zach Overberg would run the course in 18:40 to finish in sixth place while Chad Loomis earned 12th place with his 19:14 clocking.
Dan Pelzer would finish in 20th place with a time of 20:13, while Austin Lietz was a step behind in 21st place with his 20:16 effort.
Max Jones would turn in a 20:59 effort for a 23rd place finish, while Michael Pugh finished 26th with a 22:50 effort. Brett Steinkamp rounded out the varsity effort for the E-Hawks with a 22:51 time, which was good for 27th place in the field.
Emmetsburg got a solid effort in the junior varsity boys’ race from newcomer Brian James, who ran a 27:42 to finish 13th in his first-ever cross country run.
Coach Valerie Pickett’s Lady E-Hawks came away with a fourth place team finish Monday evening.
Freshman Olivia Smith earned a medal finish with her 12th place effort in 18:34, and Taylor Reimer would take 15th place with a 19:04, barely edging out teammate Caroline Fantz, who finished with a 19:05 for 16th place.
Hadley Egland finished 18th with a 19:38 clocking, while Kristi Wurzer was 24th with her tie of 20:21. Rachel Ruddy would finish with a 21:13 clocking to earn 28th place and Madison Reimer finished in 32nd place with a 25:04 clocking.
Additionally, Emmetsburg’s two Middle school runners, Ashley Overberg and Shelby Loomis, also competed in their first event of the season on Monday, running the two mile course with other Middle School competitors. Ashley Overberg would finish in third place with a 13:57 time, while Shelby Loomis finished with a 20:17 time for the 46th place finish.
The next action for the Emmetsburg Harriers will be on Monday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Humboldt to compete in the Wildcat Invitational. Middle school action will begin at 4:15 p.m.
