Knights Earn First Win Of Season
GRAETTINGER – For the second time in two weeks, the Knights of Graettinger/Terril found themselves in one of those games that could have gone either way. However, on Friday night, it was the Knights who persevered for the win in a 41-34 victory over district-rivals North Sentral Kossuth.
The win is the Knights’ first of the season, and gives them a mark of 1-0 in Eight Man District Two play and 1-2 overall on the season.
Graettinger/Terril would open the scoring with a one-yard run by Trent Lundgren for a 7-0 lead after one stanza. The second quarter saw the Knights get a 12-yard reception by Garrett Parker of a Blaze Alesch pass to answer a North Sentral Kossuth score. The touchdown would give Graettinger/Terril a 13-6 lead at the intermission.
Trent Lundgren would add a 20-yard touchdown run to the coffers in the third quarter, while teammate Colin Leiting caught a 20-yard pass from Alesch to give the Knights a 27-18 lead after North Sentral Kossuth had tallied a pair of scores in the third frame.
With the game still in question in the final quarter, the Knights got a touchdown off a 48-yard keeper by Blaze Alesch for a 34-24 advantage. But, North Sentral Kossuth would strike again with just under 2:00 to go to tie the game up at 34-34.
This time, Graettinger/Terril took the ensuing kickoff and drove down the field, capping off the drive with a 23-yard pass reception by Mitch Girres for the game winning score. Girres would add the conversion kick for the 41-34 advantage and margin of victory with :30 to go in the contest.
Graettinger/Terril would amass 212 yards of rushing offense off 44 attempts, with Trent Lundgren gaining 106 yards off 25 rushes. Blaze Alesch added 103 yards off 18 carries in the contest.r
Blaze Alesch completed 17 of 28 passing attempts for 179 yards with one interception.
Colin Leiting caught six passes for 95 yards and Trent Lundgren added four catches for 23 yards. Mitch Girres had one pass for 23 yards, while Quinn Parker caught one pass for 11 yards and Tyler Dalen caught two passes for seven yards.
Quinn Parker added a fumble recovery to the defensive effort, while Blaze . Alesch snagged two interceptions and Mitch Girres also stole one pass.
The Knights will make the short trip to Ruthven-Ayrshire this Friday night for the Raiders’ Homecoming.
