Lady E-Hawks Battle Hard In Net Opener

The volleyball campaign opened with a loss for the Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks on Tuesday night, but there were lots of positives nonetheless.

“It’s a new lineup for us and I?thought the girls worked hard out there,”?noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Andrea Accola-Sabin. “There are things we can improve on but for the first game of the season, I saw good things out there.”

Facing a tried and tested Laurens-Marathon squad, Emmetsburg would fall in a 3-1 match by game scores of 11-25, 25-22, 25-27 and 18-25.

Offensively, Emmetsburg completed 70 of 77 serves for 90.9 percent serving accuracy. Junior Rachel Schroeder connected on 14 of 16 serves and tallied three aces on the night, while shelby Brindley connected on 11 of 14 serves with three aces. Senior Paige Naig made 12 of 13 serves and junior Emily Noll made her debut as a Lady E-Hawk with 12 of 13 serves as well.

Junior Whitney Kibbie added 11 of 11 serves with one ace and Jayme Penrod completed 10 of 10 serves with two aces.

At the net, Paige Naig made 27 of 29 hits with 12 kills and also made a solo block on the night while digging out two shots.

Miranda Vlasman made 17 of 22 hits with five kills and made one solo block and assisted on a block.

Whitney Kibbie made six of 10 hits with a kill, assisted on one block and dug out eight shots while dishing out six assists.

Emily Noll made seven of nine hits with a kill and dug out nine shots, while Rachel Schroeder made four of six hits with two kills and one dig.

Jacque Carlson would make three of four hits with a kill, while Shelby Brindley dug out five shots and made eight assists.

Jayme Penrod dug out 10 shots from her libero position and Britni Will dug out four shots to round out the effort.

The Lady E-Hawks will take to the court this Saturday to play in Sheldon Invitational Tournament before traveling to Pomeroy next Tuesday to face the Maidens of Pocahontas Area Community/Pomeroy-Palmer. The game will be played at Pomeroy.
