Harriers Continue To Improve Times
SPIRIT?LAKE?- Emmetsburg’s Cross Country teams continue to shave not just seconds, but minutes off their times as the season continued Tuesday afternoon at the Spirit Lake Invitational Meet at Brooks National Golf Course. In just their second meet of the season, both the E-Hawks and Lady E-Hawks saw improvements in times, and five new personal best marks set during the evening.
In the girls race, Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks finished seventh in the nine-team field, once again being paced by the freshman duo of Olivia Smith and Caroline Fantz, who both posted new personal best times on the season.
Olivia Smith earned 17th place overall with a time of 16:51, while Caroline Fantz would finish with an 18:17 time, good for the 40th place finish overall.
Taylor Reimer would turn in a time of 18:35 to place 45th, while Hadley Egland finished 49th with an 18:51 clocking, a new personal best for her. Kristi Wurzer would finish 60th overall with a time of 19:58, while Rachel Ruddy was 63rd in 20:31 and Madison Reimer placed 66th with a time of 22:42.
The E-Hawks would place seventh out of the eight boys teams, with senior Zach Overberg setting a new personal best time with his 17:32 clocking, which gave him a 15th place finish. Chad Loomis would turn in a time of 18:38 at the finish, good for 37th place. Austin Lietz set a new personal best mark on Tuesday, finishing 47th in a time of 19:40.
Marcel Pohlmann finished right behind in 48th place with a time of 19:43, while Max Jones was 49th with his 19:53 clocking. Dan Pelzer would run a 20:12 to earn 50th place in the competition and Brett Steinkamp rounded out the varsity with a time of 22:38, good for 57th place overall.
Emmetsburg’s Michael Pugh competed in the boys Junior Varsity event, where he finished 57th in the field with a time of 22:23.
“This was another great night for our teams,” noted Head Coach Valerie Pickett. “All of the E-Hawks who were on the squad last year ran a better time than they did last year at this meet.”
