WEST?BEND – The West Bend-Mallard Wolverine offense rolled to another big win on the young season Friday with a 46-6 victory over Ventura. A dominant performance by the defense helped spark the Wolverines to their second victory on the year.

West Bend-Mallard would score first off a 30 yard run by Collin Thatcher with 8:08 to go in the first quarter. Logan Streit ran in the conversion for an 8-0 lead that would hold through the first quarter.

In the second frame, it only took a second for the Wolverines to strike, as Mitch Bonnstetter scored off a one-yard plunge into the end zone and then ran in his own conversion for a 16-0 lead.

After a punt, the Wolverines took over again, and this time engineered another drive that would cap off with a 23 yard run by Bonnstetter on an option play for a score with 6:28 to go in the half. The conversion run came up short, giving WB-M a 22-0 lead.

But, after the defense came up big and forced another Ventura punt, the Wolverines got a 47-yard punt return from Bonnstetter for a touchdown with 3:55 to go in the half. Collin Thatcher ran the conversion in to give West Bend-Mallard a 30-0 advantage at the half.

With a solid lead, the Wolverines didn’t let up in the second half. Collin Thatcher fielded the kickoff to open the second half at the West Bend-Mallard eight yard line and got a wall going to spring him for a 72-yard kickoff return for a score. Mitch Bonnstetter ran in the conversion to put the Wolverines up 38-0 just :13 into the third quarter, and the Vikings could go nowhere after that.

With a continuous clock, the game moved quickly as the Wolverines got the ball back one more time in the third frame. With good field position, Bonnstetter drove the Wolverines down field and kept the ball for a seven yard scoring run with 2:19 to go in the quarter. Collin Thatcher ran in the conversion for the 46-0 lead that ended the third quarter.

With the reserves in the game in the final quarter, the Wolverines kept Ventura in check until the final minute, when the Vikings managed to come up with a 50-yard desperation pass that was caught for a score, but the conversion failed for the 46-6 final.
