Pre-Season Scrimmages Friday NIght
With attention ramping up toward the start of the Fall sports seasons, the student athletes of Emmetsburg High School will offer their fans a preview of wait is in store for the coming seasons this Friday evening.
The Lady E-Hawk volleyball teams, E-Hawk cross country squads and E-Hawk football teams will all perform in the annual sports drink scrimmages this Friday, August 19.
The evening of pre-season scrimmages begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday with the annual E-Hawk Football Tailgate BBQ fundraiser, which will be held in the high school commons. The meal of burgers, hot dogs, chips and drink is served on a free will donation basis and will be offered from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Coach Andrea Accola-Sabin , along with assistant coaches Kari Mueller and Tim Rodemeyer will present the 2011 Lady E-Hawk volleyball teams in the high school gym, with scrimmage action beginning at 6 p.m. The Lady E-Hawks will play their official season opening contest on Tuesday, Aug. 30 by hosting Laurens-Marathon.
The annual student-athlete parents meetings with school administrators and coaches of the various Fall Sports will take place Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the high school.
The action will shift to the track and turf of Duane Twait Field at 7:45 p.m.
Coach Valerie Pickett and the E-Hawk Cross Country squads will run several laps around the track as they are introduced and prepare for their season opening event at Spencer on Tuesday, August 23.
The E-Hawk football teams also take to the turf to scrimmage, starting with the Freshmen, under the guidance of Head Coach Tyler Beving and Assistant Coach Brett Hanson. The young E-Hawks will take to the field for introductions and a 12-minute quarter of play at 7:45 p.m.
Next up will be Head Coach Dave Fog and Assistant Coach Brett Hanson and the E-Hawk Sophomores, who will also be introduced and play their scrimmage at 8:00 p.m.
At 8:45 p.m., Head Coach Mike Dunlap and Assistant Coach Joe Carter will bring the E-Hawk varsity down the hill to be introduced for the annual Black and White scrimmage. The Varsity will play two quarters of controlled scrimmage action to cap off the evening.
The 2011 gridiron season will then begin on Friday, Aug. 26 at Duane Twait Field with the Midgets of Estherville Lincoln Central making the trip to Emmetsburg in a continuation of their rivalry with the E-Hawks.
For the Emmetsburg pre-season scrimmages, admission to the events will be one bottle of sports drink, such as Gatorade or Powerade per person.
