Former G/T Player Earns Special Honors
DECORAH – A former Graettinger/Terril softball standout recently earned special honors at Luther College in Decorah. Lexy Determan, a 2007 graduate of Graettinger-Terril High School, was named Pitcher of the Year for the Luther College softball team.
Determan, the daughter of Dave and Kathy Determan of Terril, received the honors at the Norse’annual post-season awards banquet that was held Sunday, August 7. At the same time, Determan received her second letter from Luther.
Determan completed her senior year of play at Luther by earning first-team All-Iowa Conference, first-team all-Midwest Region, and second-team All-America honors, posting a record of 25-4 with a 1.15 ERA. She struck out 230 batters and had 12 shutouts.
Lexy came to Luther after pitching one season each at Northwestern and Warburg Colleges.
During the 2011 campaign, Luther was crowned Co-Iowa Conference champions with a record of 14-2.
The Norse went on to win the Iowa Conference Tournament, for the second time in school history, solidifying its fourth trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in the past five years.
Luther advanced to the NCAA III National Championships for a second consecutive year after capturing the Eau Claire Regional. The Norse Luther placed seventh at the national finale completing the season with a record of 41-6.
The NFCA recognized Luther’s outstanding season by naming the Norse coaching staff head coach Renae Hartl, pitching coach Tracy Hjelle, assistant coaches Teri Olson and Erika Randall the Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
