Fans of Graettinger/Terril will get a look at their football and volleyball teams Wednesday evening, August 17, during sports drink scrimmages at Graettinger. Due to a scheduling conflict, the annual volleyball and football photo sessions and scrimmages have been changed to Wednesday at the high school in Graettinger.

Volleyball photos will be taken at 3 p.m. in the gym, with the scrimmage to start at 4 p.m. Following the volleyball scrimmage, the action will shift to Evergreen Park and the football photo session at 5:30 p.m. The Knights will then scrimmage at 7 p.m. Admission to the scrimmages is a bottle of a sports drink for use by the student athletes.

The Knights will open their season next Friday, August 26, by hosting the Rockets of Remsen Union. The Knight Volleyball team will start its season out on August 30 by playing in the Okoboji Invitational Tournament at Milford.

The 2011 football season opens this Friday night for the Raiders of Ruthven-Ayrshire as they will play a Week Zero game, hosting the Wolves of Harris-Lake Park in the opener. The loss of Twin River Valley from District Two left the district participants with an open date, which some schools, such as Ruthven-Ayrshire, elected to fill, creating the Week Zero matchup.

After holding their sports drink scrimmage last Friday, the Raider Volleyball team will open its season Tuesday, August 30, by hosting Storm Lake St. Mary’s.

Keeping with traditions, however, the annual West Bend-Mallard Booster Club barbeque will be served prior to Friday’s night’s ball game adjacent to the football field.

The Lady Wolverines will open their season August 23 at Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer, playing in Pomeroy.
