Lady E-Hawks Down Spirit Lake

Emmetsburg finished out its regular season Wednesday night with a 10-0 shutout over Spirit Lake in six innings to emerge as co-champions of the Lakes Conference with a 12-2 mark, sharing the crown with ELC.

In the makeup game with Spirit Lake, Emmetsburg would take a 2-0 lead off runs from Miranda Vlasman and Teegan Olson in the second inning, and exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game by the 10-run rule.

In the bottom of the sixth, Emmetsburg led off with a quick out by Jayme Penrod, but Teegan Olson was hit by a pitch and followed on base by Whitney Kibbie with a single. Kaity Degen was also hit, but an error on a throw allowed Olson to plate a run, and a single from Aly Berven scored Kibbie.

A double from Hillary Pico scored Degen and Berven, before a single from Faith Schmidt brought Pico home. A walk of Miranda Vlasman was followed by a single from Penrod that scored courtesy runner Alexa Naig. Teegan Olson would then step up and rapped out a double to score both Vlasman and Penrod, which would end the game by the 10-run rule.

Faith Schmidt got the win, giving up three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Emmetsburg got a double and single from Teegan Olson and a double from Hillary Pico, while Faith Schmidt had two hits. Whitney Kibbie, Jayme Penrod, Morgan Vlasman and Aly Berven also added hits to the winning effort.
