Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks picked up a pair of Lakes Conference victories at the end of last week but were denied a finish in a non-conference matchup Friday.

The Lady E-Hawks took a 3-2 win over Western Christian on Wednesday and a 9-0 win over Cherokee on Thursday, but played to a 2-2 tie after two innings of a game with Bishop Garrigan on Friday night that was halted by a thunderstorm.

Wednesday night, Emmetsburg outlasted Western Christian for a 3-2 win. Emmetsburg would plate a run in the first off a single from Aly Berven, and after Western tied the score in the top of the second, added a second run in the bottom of the second as Jayme Penrod scored a run off a base hit.

Western tacked on a run in the top of the fourth, but Emmetsburg answered in the bottom of the inning as Morgan Vlasman scored off an error to retake the lead. Soldi defense would end the game in the win.

Faith Schmidt got the win, giving up two runs, one earned, off six hits with 12 strikeouts.

Aly Berven, Morgan Vlasman, Jayme Penrod and Teegan Olson all had hits in the win.

Traveling to Cherokee on Thursday night, the Lady E-Hawks improved their Lakes Conference record to 10-2 with their 9-0 win over the Braves.

The game was scoreless through four innings, as the two squads traded outs, but in the top of the fifth inning, Emmetsburg’s offense arrived at the diamond.

Whitney Kibbie led off with an error and came home to score off a single by Aly Berven. Berven would score off a two-run homer by Hillary Pico before the at-bat ended.

In the top of the sixth inning, Emmetsburg started with a quick outs before Miranda Vlasman got on base off a single. Teegan Olson rapped out a base hit and Whitney Kibbie hit a fielders’ choice that put Vlasman out at third. A single by Jacque Carlson would score both Olson and Kibbie before Carlson was stranded when Kaity Degen struck out to end the at-bat.

The Lady E-Hawks put four insurance runs on the board in the top of the seventh, as Aly Berven, Hillary Pico, Faith Schmidt and Morgan Vlasman all crossed the plate off a pair of singles and a pair of doubles to take a 9-0 lead.

Cherokee would be retired in order to end the contest in the win for Emmetsburg.

Faith Schmidt earned the win, as she gave up two hits and struck out 12.

Emmetsburg got a homerun, double and single from Hillary Pico, while Miranda Vlasman had a double and single and Faith Schmidt had a double. Aly Berven added two hits, while Teegan Olson, Whitney Kibbie and Jacque Carlson all added singles to the effort.

Friday night the Lady E-Hawks traveled to Algona to take on Bishop Garrigan. The Golden Bears would take an early 2-0 lead after one inning, despite a triple by Faith Schmidt in the top of the first.

But in the top of the second, Teegan Olson would get a single and Whitney Kibbie drew a walk, but would be thrown out at home before an error on Alexa Naig’s at-bat allowed Olson to score. A single by Kaity Degen would bring Naig home to tie the game before the at bat ended.

But lightning would bring the contest to a stop at the end of the second inning and a downpour of rain would render the field unplayable, ending the contest.

Ashton Connelly gave up two runs off one hit with two strikeouts and three walks.

Faith Schmidt had a triple, while Teegan Olson and Kaity Degen both added hits.
