ANKENY – A stellar high school career came to a close last week for Emmetsburg’s Megan Myers as she finished tied for 24th place at the 2011 Girls Class 2A State Golf Championships. The Girls’ State Tournament was played at the Otter Creek Country Club in Ankeny on Tuesday, May 31 and Wednesday, June 1.

After shooting a round of 95 on the opening day’s 18 holes, Myers came back on Wednesday to shave two strokes from her game for a 93 over the final 18 holes to finish with a 188 stroke score, giving her the tie for 24th place.

“Megan played very well on a challenging course,” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Ted Riley. “She’s been at the state golf tournament all four years of her high school career either as a member of a qualifying Lady E-Hawk team or as an individual and that’s no small accomplishment.”

Myers quallified as a team member for the state tournament each year since she was a freshman up to this season, but also qualified as an individual qualifier as a sophomore in addition to this year.

“Megan has been a great team leader for us all four years as a Lady E-Hawk golfer and her leadership will be missed,”?Riley said. “She has given our younger players great inspiration to accomplish good things in their golfing future. We wish her well.”
