Emmetsburg Hot Shots Earn Gold Medal
CYLINDER – The Palo Alto Gun Club hosted the High School Trap and SCTP Iowa Games on Saturday, May 7, at Sportsman’s Park.
The Emmetsburg High School Hot Shots Trap Team, consisting of Austin Bonnstetter, Brady Christensen, Brady Berkland, Tyler Drost, and Andrew Garrelts won the first place Gold Medal, winning in dramatic fashion after finishing regulation shooting tied with the Lakes Area High School team in the team competition. Emmetsburg would claim the gold medal in a team shoot-off, winning by four total targets.
The Lakes Area team took home the silver, with Humbolt High School awarded the third-place bronze medal.
Individually, Emmetsburg’s Austin Bonnstetter won the second place silver medal, and Tyler Drost finished third for the bronze medal.
In high school trap action on April 27, Emmetsburg team One shot top team honors in a 10-team field at the Algona Izaak Walton League trap range.
Teams from Algona, Bishop Garrigan, Humboldt and Belmond made up the field with Emmetsburg.
Hot Shots Team One consisted of Austin Bonnstetter, Kory Hagen, Brady Berkland, Josh Kibbie, and Tyler Drost. Their winning team score was 208, out-distancing the second-place team from Algona by over 40 targets.
Individually, Austin Bonnstetter finished in a tie for high individual with a score of 46, and then won first place in a shoot-off, with a score of 24 vs. 23 for the second-place shooter from Algona.
In addition, Kory Hagen, Brady Berkland, and Brady Christensen from Team Two, were all involved in a four-way tie for third high individual honors with scores of 42, which was won by Brady Berkland shooting a 21 in the shoot-off, but both Hagen and Christensen kept it close scoring 20 in the shoot-off.
Other Hot Shots competing were Jamie Cole, Erick Drost, Andrew Garrelts, William Hawks, Allen Jensen, Arik Kerr, and Doug Vesey.
