Area Linksters Earn All Conference Honors
GRAETTINGER Boys golfers from Graettinger/ Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and West Bend-Mallard placed several team members on the 2011 Cornbelt Conference All Conference teams following last week’s Cornbelt Conference Golf Meet, played at the Hillcrest Country Club in Graettinger. The tournament title would be won by West Bend-Mallard with a 359 team score, while North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted finished second with a 367 stroke score. Graettinger/Terril-Ruthven-Ayrshire finished third with a 368 while Harris-Lake Park was a stroke back in fourth place with a 369.
Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka finished fifth with a 377 and Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne took sixth with a 398 stroke total. Twin River Valley finished seventh with a 414, while Clay Central-Everly turned in a 419 for eighth place and Ventura finished ninth with a 419 stroke total.
Sawyer Doocy of NSK/AR earned the medalist honors with a 72, while Ryan Banwart of West Bend-Mallard claimed runner-up honors with a 78.
The nine lowest scorers were accorded First Team All Conference Honors. For West Bend-Mallard, Ryan Banwart earned a berth on the First team with his 78, while GT/RA’s Blaze Alesch tallied an 85 and teammated Dylan Smith scored an 89 to make the First Team. Greg Mader of West Bend-Mallard shot a 90 to earn a Frist Team berth to round out the elite team honors for local teams.
Second Team All Conference honors were accorded to Christ Schmidt of West Bend-Mallard with a 92 and Zach Harris of GT/RA with a 95. Earning recognition on the Third Team All Conference squad were Ethan Petersen of GT/RA with a 99 and Jake Umsted of West Bend-Mallard, who also shot a 99.
For Graettinger/Terril-Ruthven-Ayrshire, Tanner Naig shot a 101 and Ty Gibson carded a 102, while West Bend-Mallard got a 102 from Taylor Foley and a 110 from Tony Bruellman to round out the local team scoring.
