Earlybird Meet Opens Outdoor Season

After a day’s delay due to blustery conditions, Tuesday’s Earlybird track meet in Emmetsburg came off under much better conditions for running. The event was the first outdoor action for Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks in the young track and field season. No team points were kept in the event, which included squads from Spencer and Estherville Lincoln Central.

The E-Hawks were paced by Cory Schultes’ win in the 200 meter dash, as the senior zipped to a :23.51 clocking for first place. Austin Oppenheimer also earned first place honors in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.62 and Cody Henderson claimed a first place finish in the 110 high hurdles with his time of :16.13.

Emmetsburg also took first place honors in the boys shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:04.16 and first place in the 4×200 relay with an effort of 1:35.23.

Brady Berkland would earn second place honors in the long jump, coming away with a leap of 19’4.25″ and Chad Loomis finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.29. Andrew Garrelts earned second place in the shot put, throwing the orb 40’1″ and then took third in the discus with a toss of o108’11”.

The E-Hawk 4×100 relay squad would earn a second place finish in the event with a finishing time of :46.84 and the 4×400 relay squad also placed second, finishing with a 3:43.76 clocking.

Emmetsburg’s JV 4×200 relay team finished third with a time of 1:40.67, while the 4×800 relay team earned third place honors with a 10:22.89 effort.

The E-Hawk Distance Medley relay would also finish in third place with a time of 4:13.75, while Cody Henderson earned third place honors in the high jump as he cleared a height of 5’2″. In the 1600 meter run, Allen Dunnick would finish third in 5:18.41 while teammate Brian Lietz was fourth in a time of 5:33.22.

Brady Christensen placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with a clocking of :12.47 and Allen Jensen earned fourth place in the 400 hurdles with his time of 1:03.79.

Jacob Hutchison finished fifth in the discus, throwing the platter 89’10” and Brady Garrelts took fifth place in the 200 meter dash with a :25.30 effort, while Tyler Henson earned sixth in the shot put with a heave of 33’6.50″.

Tristen Janssen finished fifth in the 800 meter run with a 2:48.75 clocking and Allen Jensen turned in a jump of 5’0″ to finish sixth in the high jump competition.

Brady Christensen would finish seventh in the long jump, leaping 15’9.50″, while Aaron Bird earned seventh place in the 200 meter dash with a time of :26.41 and then finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of :13.20.

The next scheduled action for Coach Tyler Beving’s thinclads comes on Friday when the E-Hawks will travel to Humboldt for the Wildcat Invitational.
