Knight Wrestlers To Participate In All Star Matches
CHEROKEE – The Northwest Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (NWIWCOA) will be hosting the Third Annual Senior All Star Folktale Wrestling Meet in Cherokee, this Friday, March 11. Wrestling action will start at 6:00 p.m.
The All Star Meet will feature a pair of wrestlers from Graettinger/Terril, as State Champion 215 pounder Nate Howard and teammate Ryan Schanz, who wrestled at 152 pounds at the State Tourney, will participate in the event to represent the Knights and Head Coach Cody Alesch.
The event will provide the group of select wrestlers with an opportunity for one or two matches during the evening to showcase their skills on the mat.
As part of the evening’s activities, some special recognitions will be made to honor three long-time wrestling supporters from Northwest Iowa. The Honorary Tournament Directors this year will be the families of Ty Kruger of George; Jerry Hentges of Spirit Lake and BJ Leusink of Sioux Center.
The All Stars will be divided into two teams, and serving as coaches for one team will be the brother duo of Stan and Rich Krosch from Kingsley-Pierson. On the opposite side of the mat will be Jim Fisher from Woodbury Central and Kent Eknes from Rock Valley
Additionally, the NWIWCOA will also be recognizing the Class 1A, 2A, and 3A coaches of the year. In Class 1A, Adam Zellmer of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was voted as the District Coach of the Year. Clint Koedam of Sergeant Bluff-Luton was voted as 2A Coach of the Year and in 3A, David Schaefer from Spencer was voted as 3A Coach of the Year and the Official of the Year was Tom Huls of Akron.
The public is invited to turn out Friday night at Washington High School in Cherokee to see these outstanding high school wrestlers in action one final time.
