ARMSTRONG – The post season came and went quickly for Graettinger/Terril’s boys basketball team. The Knights lost a heartbreaking 56-51 Class 1A quarterfinal contest to Armstrong-Ringsted Thursday night to end their season.

With the rivalry between the two clubs, the game got a little physical at times, but it was G/T that posted the early 13-10 lead after the opening quarter, but the Mustangs of AR would come back to tie the game at 24-24 at the halftime break.

The two teams traded bucket for bucket in the third quarter, with the score knotted at 42-42 to set up the final eight minutes of action.

The game was back and forth until the final 1:00, when AR slipped out to a 53-48 lead. Mitch Girres would tie the game with a three-pointer, but fouls would come into play, as AR would sink their shots at the line down the stretch for a 55-51 lead with :10 to go. The Knights missed on a shot and fouled AR?on the rebound, giving the Mustangs a chance at the line to add one more point for the 56-51 final over G/T.

For the Knights, Cody Chapman tallied 13 points, while Beau Craig added 10 points, six rebounds, five steals and five assists. Mitch Girres tallied six points, while Eric Hatland chipped in four points and Colin Leiting and Jesse Nissen each scored two points.

“This was one of our better games of the season,” said G-T coach Brent Dyhrkopp. “Everyone played hard, did their job and gave themselves a chance to win at the end.”

The Knights end the season with an 8-12 mark.
