Raiders Drop Final Regular Season Games

By Staff | Feb 17, 2011

RUTHVEN – The regular season ended with a pair of setbacks for the Ruthven-Ayrshire Raiders boys’ basketball team. On Tuesday, Feb. 8, the Raiders fell to Laurens-Marathon by a 49-28 tally, and then fell to Newell-Fonda on Friday, Feb. 11, in a 62-42 decision.

Against Laurens-Marathon on Feb. 8, the Raiders struggled against the quicker Charger defense and also in getting their shots to fall. The Raiders made just 11 of 44 shots from inside the arc in the contest and just two three-pointers.

Kyle Toillion would lead the offense with nine points, while Carter Williamson added seven points. Brecken Stukey and Trevin Enderson both scored four points, while Austin Dyer and Dylan Smith each added two points to the final score.

The pressure defense of Newell-Fonda was a major key in the Raiders’ 62-42 loss on Feb. 11.

Ruthven-Ayrshire got off to a slow start due to a stiff press by the visiting Mustangs and got into a deep hole that was too much to come back from.

Colton Bakken would manage a double-double in the contest, scoring 19 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Kyle Toillion added eight points, while Austin Dyer came up with five points. Carter Williamson and Trevin Enderson both added three points, while Damon Morris chipped in two points and Dylan Smith and Michael Sundall each added a free throw.

The Raiders made 15 of 39 shots inside the arc and 12 of 33 free throws.

“We got off to a very slow start with our inability to handle their pressure,”?noted RA?Head Coach Randy Hough. “As the game went on, we played better but got too far down too early.”
