Raiders Advance With Upset Victory At CC-E

EVERLY – In the post season, everyone starts fresh with a 0-0 slate. That fresh start paid off for the Ruthven-Ayrshire Raiders, as they earned a 47-42 win over Clay Central-Everly in the first round of Class 1A Regional tournament play Thursday night.

The win advances Coach Trenton Keefer’s team into a quarterfinal match with Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m.

Thursday night the Raiders battled and played a solid game for 32 minutes. Ruthven-Ayrshire led 12-9 after the opening quarter and was able to post a 24-20 lead a the intermission. The offense struggled in the third quarter, adding just four points to the tally, but it was enough for a 28-26 lead to start the final quarter. Ruthven-Ayrshire made some free throws down the stretch and came away with the 47-42 final victory.

Sadie Forey collected the double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Shyanne Zaragoza knocked down 12 points. Caitlyn Reed added six tallies and Marly Bakken chipped in five points, while Keely Williamson came away with four and Alesha Sikora added three.
