Lady Wolverines Defeat Chargers

WEST?BEND?- The tournament trail opened with a 48-26 win for West Bend-Mallard Thursday night. The Lady Wolverines opened the post-season with a win over Laurens-Marathon in Class 1A Tournament action. The win advances Coach Eugene Ruppert’s club into a matchup with Newell-Fonda tonight (Tuesday) in Newell.

In Thursday’s tourney opener, the Lady Wolverines took control of the game at the opening tip and never had to look back, holding the Chargers scoreless for the first 5:00 of the game, and posted an 11-2 advantage over the guests at the end of the first quarter. West Bend-Mallard would allow just four points in the second quarter for the Chargers as they went on to post a 26-6 lead at the intermission.

In the third quarter, both teams slowed on the offense as they each scored just six points, but the Lady Wolverines would hold a 20-point, 32-12 lead to start the final quarter. The Lady Wolverines would go to their bench in the final minutes of the game and went on to earn the 48-26 final margin of victory.

Jessica Fehr would lead West Bend-Mallard with 19 points, while Kayla Banwart added 12 points. McKenzie Grimm came up with five points, while Mackenzie Banwart added four markers. Haley Banwart and Courtney Bargman both scored three points and Sarah Mader rounded out the effort with two points.
