E-Hawks Drop Pair Of League Games

Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks are looking for some answers after dropping a pair of conference games last week. On Thursday, the E-Hawks struggled in a 58-69 loss at Storm Lake, then were downed by Western Christian on Friday in an 84-58 setback. The losses drop Emmetsburg to 8-5 in the Lakes and 13-5 overall on the season going into tonight’s finale` with Spirit Lake.

Thursday at Storm Lake, the E-Hawks struggled with turnovers against the opportunistic Storm Lake team. Storm Lake’s full court pressure forced 24 E-Hawk turnovers in the contest, but Emmetsburg trailed by a point, 29-30 at the half. However, the Tornadoes edged away in the second half and took the 69-58 final over the E-Hawks.

Nick Wuebker led the scoring with 17 points, while Bobby Gappa added 12 and Cory Schultes came up with 11 points. Ryan Kliegl scored seven points, while Jake Jackson added five. Jake Carlson tallied four points and Marcus Akridge added two points.

Friday night in Hull the E-Hawks were able to clean up on the turnovers, but simply couldn’t counteract the aggressive Western Christian Wolfpack’s offense.Trailing 21-17 after the first quarter, the E-Hawks trailed 46-34 at the half and 63-44 after three quarters before the Wolfpack took the 84-58 final.

For Emmetsburg, cory Schultes led the offense with 17 points, while Nick Wuebker added 10 points. Arthur Heldt added eight points, with Bobby Gappa scoring six. Jake Carlson and Ryan Kliegl both scored four points and Steven Heddinger added two points to the final effort.
