E-Hawks Fall To Spencer
Shooting less than 50 percent from the field and a determined defense spelled heartbreak for the Emmetsburg E-Hawks Friday night in a 62-55 loss to the Spencer Tigers. The loss for Coach ?Mike Brennan’s team is the third setback in Lakes Conference play, as Emmetsburg falls to 8-3 in the league and 12-3 overall.
The E-Hawks would struggle with their shooting all night long against arch-rivals Spencer. Scoring just eight points in the opening quarter, the E-Hawks would double that output in the second quarter with 17 points, but the slow start would haunt the E-Hawks, along with foul troubles. Both Nick Wuebker and Ryan Kliegl would see their games end early from fouls in the contest.
Nick Wuebker would score 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, with a pair of blocked shots in the effort, while Cory Schultes added 16 points. Ryan Kliegl tallied nine points and dished out six assists while blocking two shots before fouling out. Jake Jackson came off the bench to score five points with a pair of steals, while Bobby Gappa added three points to the effort.
The E-Hawks hit just 20 of 44 shots from inside the arc and made just two of nine three-pointers in the game. At the free throw line, the E-Hawks made 13 of 22 shots. As a team, Emmetsburg had 17 assists and 20 rebounds in the contest.
Emmetsburg was slated to travel to Sioux Rapids for a boys-only contest with Sioux Central on Monday, before traveling to Storm Lake Tuesday and then to Hull on Friday to meet up with Western Christian.
