Lady E-Hawks Take Overtime Win

LeMARS – Key shots and a refuse to lose attitude made the difference in a 47-43 overtime win for Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks over LeMars Tuesday night. Emmetsburg improved to 3-7 in the Lakes Conference and 6-10 overall with the victory.

Coach John Kennedy’s ball club had played hard all contest long on Tuesday at LeMars, and with :35 to go, the Lady E-Hawks held a slight lead, but LeMars tied the game up.

With :07 to go in regulation, Kaity Degen got the ball and put up a bomb that hit nothing but cords for a 41-38 lead, but LeMars got a desperation three to tie the game with :02 on the clock to force overtime.

The extra period saw Emmetsburg really step up its’ defense, limiting LeMars to a lone bucket, while the Lady E-Hawks managed to go to the free throw line and make shots after missing three free throws.

With :24 to go in the overtime, Paige Naig was fouled and made one of two shots for a 45-43 lead, and after a wild flurry, Naig would go to the line again with :09 to go and calmly sank both shots to ice the win.

Paige Naig would rip the nets for 22 points in the win, while Nicole Leuer added nine points. Justine Kummer and Kaity Degen both scored seven points and Faith Schmidt added two points to the final effort.
