E-Hawks Stumble On The Road
LeMARS – After a hard-fought win the first time around, Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks struggled in a 63-53 loss to LeMars Tuesday night at LeMars. The loss drops the E-Hawks to 8-2 in the Lakes Conference and 13-2 overall, and out of the three-way tie for the conference lead.
It took most of the first quarter for the E-Hawk offense to get started on Tuesday, as LeMars would jump out to an 11-2 lead before the E-Hawks would fight back to trail 17-11 at the end of the opening frame.
Emmetsburg battled back in the second quarter, though, and took a slim, one-point lead, 24-23 at the intermission, but the good fortune would not hold up.
LeMars came back in the third quarter and took the game’s tempo away from the E-Hawks with a full-court press that created numerous E-Hawk turnovers in the second half that the Bulldogs converted into points.
Trailing 45-35 to start the final quarter, the E-Hawks were unable to regain the momentum against the Bulldogs and were forced to settle for the 63-53 loss.
Despite the 22 point effort from Nick Wuebker, the E-Hawks were severely hampered by 29 turnovers they committed in the contest. After Wuebker’s 22 points, Cory Schultes added 13 points, while Jake Jackson came off the bench to sink three-three pointers for nine points. Jake Carlson added four points, with Arthur Heldt adding three points and Ryan Kliegl chipping in two points.
The E-Hawks will have to regroup quickly as they will play host to the Spencer Tigers Friday night.
