E-Hawks Fifth At Forest City

FOREST?CITY – In their first-ever appearance at the Forest City Tournament, the Emmetsburg/Ruthven-Ayrshire E-Hawks earned two individual championships and a fifth place team finish on Saturday. The E-Hawks added a pair of second place finishes, a third, a fourth, two fifth place finishes and two sixth place finishes on the day.

“We wrestled well, but there are some guys who can continue to improve,”?noted Head Coach Jared Pickett. “Nearly everyone placed above where they were seeded, so that’s a pretty good indicator of how we’re progressing.

The E-Hawks’ Skyler Rice took the title at 140 pounds and Nick Schany won the crown at 171 pounds for the E-Hawks, while Austin McCartan settled for second at 160 pounds and Tayler Wegner finished second at 189.

Brady Bailey earned a third place finish at 145 and Justin Studer finished fourth at 130 pounds. Brett Steinkamp placed fifth at 103, as did Nick Merwald at 112, while Austin Dunnick earned sixth place at 125 pounds and Andrew Garrelts finished sixth at heavyweight.

The E-Hawks’ Brady Garrelts would not be able to finish the tournament after suffering a knee injury midway through the outing.
