Knights Second At DeLeon Invitational
BRITT – Graettinger/Terril’s Knights collected three individual championships and five runner-up titles to earn second place overall at the Al DeLeon Invitational Tournament on Saturday. The tournament was held at West Hancock High School in Britt.
“The guys wrestled hard, but we could have won more matches,” said Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Cody Alesch. “We let a lot of matches get away from us that we were capable of winning. Overall, it was a pretty good day, placing all the guys in the top five.:
Leading the way for the Knights on Saturday was 103 pounder Tyler Dalen, who pinned all three of his opponents on the day, Ethan Blanchard of Central Springs, Austin Dolleslager of AGWSR and Keenan Geinau of Sumner-Fredricksburg.
Trent Lundgren would also pin his way to an individual championship at 130 pounds by defeating Taylor Cody of Okoboji, Kollin Debres of AGWSR, Benton Gaske of Sumner and J.D. Downing of Central Springs.
Senior Nate Howard claimed the championship at 215 pounds with wins by fall over Dylan Coyle of Central Springs, Nate Aitchison of West Hancock, Mark Welle of Okoboji and Hunter Pagel of Sumner to round out the individual titles for the Knights.
Earning runner-up honors for the Knights on Saturday were Austin Thompson at 112 pounds, along with Connor Tonderum at 125 pounds and Heath Marchand at 135 pounds. Also earning second place honors for Graettinger/Terril were Ty Gibson at 140 pounds and Ryan Schany at 145 pounds.
Finishing third for the Knights were Tyler Manning at 119 pounds, along with Quinn Parker at 171 pounds. Tym Hart rounded out the Graettinger/Terril placings with a fifth place finish in action at 152 pounds.
After the holiday break, Coach Alesch and the Knights will resume the mat campaign on Tuesday, January 3, when they travel to Sioux Center to take on the Warriors and Spirit Lake Park in a double dual.
