Knights Battle Hard For Victory
CORWITH – It was a battle all night long on Friday as the Graettinger/Terril Knights fought back from double-digit deficits to defeated Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne by a 60-52 tally. The win closes out the first half of the season for Coach Brent Dyhrkopp’s Knights with a 3-4 overall mark and 1-0 record in league play.
The first quarter was close with the Knights taking a 12-11 lead at the end of the opening frame, but in the second quarter CWL was able to edge out to a 30-28 advantage at the break, after leading by as many as 11 points in the quarter.
The Knights would regroup at the intermission and came out fighting in the second half, retaking the lead and posting a 45-41 lead to start the final quarter before putting the game in the win column with the 60-52 final score.
Beau Craig would work the inside to lead GT with 27 points on the night and seven rebounds. Mitch Girres added 13 points while Ty Bisenius chipped in 10 markers, Jesse Nissen added six points and Eric Hatland rounded out the scoring with four tallies. Hatland also had seven rebounds, seven steals and five assists in the defensive effort.
“We got off to a better start, but got into foul trouble late in the first quarter and into the second quarter,” said Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Brent Dyhrkopp. “The second half we were more patient on offense and more aggressive on defense. Everyone contributed in the second half.”
The Knights resume action hosting Harris-Lake Park on Tuesday, Jan. 4 in Terril.
