ESTHERVILLE – The Emmetsburg E-Hawks improved their season mark to 2-0 in the Lakes Conference boys basketball standings and 4-0 overall with a lopsided 57-22 win over Estherville Lincoln Central on Friday in Estherville. The final quarter of the game was played under the new continuous clock rule after the E-Hawks took a 35-point lead over the Midgets.

The opening quarter of the contest was not pretty, as both teams raced wildly under the bucket, struggling to get shots to drop, but it was Emmetsburg who emerged with an 11-7 advantage after the first frame. That advantage would grow to a 29-10 score at the intermission as Emmetsburg’s defense limited the Midgets to three points in the second frame.

The E-Hawks would spread the ball around in the second quarter, getting several players into the score book despite some frantic moments on both ends of the court. With a 49-17 lead at the end of the third quarter, the game quickly went to the continuous clock as the E-Hawks sailed to the 57-22 final.

Ryan Kliegl led the E-Hawks with 13 points, while Jake Jackson added 11 off the bench. Nick Wuebker and Steven Heddinger both had nine points, while Cory Schultes chipped in eight points and Jake Carlson rounded out the effort with five points.

As a team, the E-Hawks hit 13 of 31 from two-point range in the win.
