Knights Earn One Title At Okoboji
MILFORD – Graettinger/Terril’s Knights earned an individual title and had a wrestler win his 100th career match at Saturday’s Okoboji Invitational wrestling tournament. Senior 215 pounder Nate Howard reached the century mark as he won the championship match on Saturday.
The Knights would finish eighth overall in the 10-team tournament.
Nate Howard would win the title at 215, as he pinned his way through the tournament, starting with a :26 fall over Mark Welle of Okoboji before pinning Terron Geerdes of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock in :51 before hitting the century win with a 1:23 win by fall over Spencer’s Kris Rhode.
At 125 pounds, Tyler Manning earned a second place finish for the Knights. Manning recorded a 3:40 win by fall over Davie Graves of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, but would finish in the runner-up spot to Spirit Lake Park’s Isaac Lundgren in a 9-1 decision loss.
At 112 pounds, Tyler Dalen would earn a third place finish for the Knights, while Austin Thompson would finish fourth at 119 pounds. Graettinger/Terril’s Ryan Schany finished fifth in the 152 pound weight class and at 140 pounds, Heath Marchand finished in sixth place to round out the Knight placings in the tourney.
“We had an up and down day,” Coach Cody Alesch noted. “Nate and Tyler Manning each had good days, but we are just making too many mistakes and are not wrestling with intensity in our matches.”
Alesch continued, “This tournament has really begun to turn into a tough tournament. We are finding our weaknesses so we just need to work on those things and get better going into next week.”
The Knights will travel to Emmetsburg this evening (Tuesday) for a double duel with the E-Hawks of Emmetsburg/Ruthven-Ayrshire and the Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan. Action will begin at 6 p.m.
