E-Hawks Gearing Up For Blitzing Hawks In Regular Season Finale’
Back in early August, Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks set some goals. One of those goals was to be district champions. Another goal was to continually improve and grow as a team throughout the season.
Now, the regular season wraps up this Friday night as Emmetsburg travels to Hartley to meet Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s Hawks.
While a win would give Emmetsburg the district title, that is not the driving force of Friday’s game. The goal for Friday’s game is that same goal dating back to August.
“We have to be very disciplined and play assignment defense on Friday night.”
According to E-Hawk mentor Mike Dunlap, the mantra hasn’t changed, and for good reason. “There’s nothing else more important for us than to be a focused, disciplined, great effort football team.”
Focus is going to be crucial come Friday night when the E-Hawks step onto the field in Hartley. The two teams have some history and familiarity over the years, and Emmetsburg knows very well that the Hawks will be hungry.
“Defensively, the operate out of a 3-5-3 and they blitz on every down,” Dunlap said. “We have got to be ready for their blitzes on every play Friday night.”
When HMS?is on offense, they will work out of the Wing-T and the Wing spread offenses, using their speed and size as keys to their effort.
“They have great speed and good size all over the field,”?Dunlap acknowledged. We will have to play our best assignment defense, there’s no doubt about it.”
With a senior-dominated team, the Hawks will present the biggest challenge to the E-Hawks that they’ve faced all season.
“This week is no different than any other week, This is our most important game this week. Nothing else is important,” Dunlap noted. “We will have to control their blitz and handle the blitzers and play our game.”
