Swimmers Split In Sept. 30 Dual

A split with Spencer and Storm Lake was the result of a double dual meet for the Algona Girls Swim Team on Sept. 30 in Storm Lake. The Algona squad would fall to Spencer by a 77-17 tally, but came back to defeat Storm Lake by a 48-45 score.

Setting a season’s best time was the 200 Free Relay team of Missy Zadow, Amber Schacherer, Alyssa Williams and Hannah Priest, as they finished iwth a 1:57.98. Hannah Priest would also set a team record in the 100 freestyle event with a time of 1:01.65, which earned her second place overall in the race.

In their win over Storm Lake, Missy Zadow was first in the breaststroke, while Nicole Kenne was first in the 500 free style and Amber Schacherer took first in the 100 fly.

A second place finish went to Mackenzie Wilson in the 100 Fly, along with Alyssa Williams in the 100 backstroke, Emma Plathe in the 50 freestyle and the 200med Relay and the 400 free relay teams.

“Overall it was a good night for us against Spencer as we scored points on them and have closed the times with them since our last meeting,” noted Algona Swim Coach Jim Fisher. “Against Storm Lake we did not perform like I had hoped for in the first four events, and we got down 13-21. However in the next four events we outscored them 23-10, taking control of the meet and then finished them off.”

Fisher continued, “It was a good win for the girls coming back like that. Storm Lake is always one we like to get as they are tough and we match up well. I was pleased with out showing against Spencer as we were very competitive.”

The Algona Swim Team has earned a record of 4-4 on the season in dual action. next up on their schedule is a rematch with the Tigers and Tornadoes on Monday, Oct. 11, at Spencer’s Family YMCA.
