Saturday Night Under The Lights Set For This Saturday

By Staff | Sep 30, 2010

A hugely successful youth program will celebrate its fourth season this Saturday night in Emmetsburg. The Fourth Annual E-Hawk Flag Football Saturday Under the Lights Event is set to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday night at Duane Twait Field at the Emmetsburg High School athletic fields.

The evening’s event provides families and friends of tomorrow’s E-Hawk football players a chance to see the future of E-Hawk football perform on historic Duane Twait Field, under the lights, just as the E-Hawks play. Additionally, a free-will barbeque supper is served prior to the event at the field as a fundraiser for continued operation of the program.

Over 125 youth will be participating in Saturday’s event, which is broken down by age groups. First and Second graders will scrimmage from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by Third and Fourth graders, who will scrimmage from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The Fifth and Sixth graders will close out the evening’s activities with scrimmages from 7:15 to 8 p.m.

The E-Hawk Flag Football program is made possible through the support of several local businesses and organizations, including Iowa Trust & Savings Bank, E-Hawk Football – Coach Mike Dunlap, POET Biorefining, Pronto Car Wash-E-Hawk Inc., Creative Stitches, Pizza Ranch, Jensvold Motors, Dan Cooper Builders, Emmetsburg Community Schools, Emmetsburg Screen Printing and Hughes Brennan & Wirtz Insurance. Also sponsoring the program are Chad Anderson-Pioneer Seed, Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities, Joyce Funeral Home, Palo Alto County Beef Producers, Fareway Stores, Wallace’s Water Conditioning-Culligan, Emmetsburg Food Pride, Dr. Kimberly Zimmerman-DDS and Emmetsburg Publishing-The Reporter and The Democrat.

Also crucial to the success of the program are volunteers who assist with coaching the youth and working with the program, including BJ Schany, Kort Freeman, Scott Wirtz, Brian Rouse, Andy Joyce, Mike Hough, Brent McAllister, Scott Kibbie, Matt Mueller, Steve Schany, Pat Joyce, Rick Brennan, Travis Fries, Troy Auten, Kyle Auten, Dan Jackson and Emmetsburg Parks and Recreation Director Mike Dunlap.

Last but not least, members of the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Football team also donate their time and efforts to work with their younger counterparts to help develop and nurture their love of the game.

Saturday Night Under the Lights is open to the public and all are invited to Duane Twait Field to attend a fun evening of watching the future of E-Hawk Football this Saturday night at 6 p.m.
