Lady E-Hawk Netters Earn 3-3 Finish At Humboldt Invitational

HUMBOLDT – Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks competed well at Saturday’s Humboldt Invitational Volleyball Tournament, earning a 3-3 match record against some tough competitors. Overall, Coach Andrea Accola-Sabin’s Lady E-Hawks would finish with a game record of 6-7.

Emmetsburg would fall to Humboldt by scores of 6-21 and 11-21, but came back to defeat West Bend-Mallard by scores of 21-16 and 21-17. Against North Sentral Kossuth, the Lady E-Hawks fell 16-21 and 21-23 but came back to defeat Ogden by scores of 21-13 and 21-16. Against Prairie Valley, Emmetsburg came up short in a 15-21 and 17-21 match, but in the final match of the day against South Central Calhoun, Emmetsburg won the first game 21-17, only to stumble in game two, losing 18-21. In the deciding game of the match, the Lady E-Hawks took the match win with a score of 15-13.

On the day, Paige Naig would make 112 of 124 hits and hammered 44 kills for Emmetsburg. She added two assisted blocks, dug out seven shots, made one assist, and connected on 39 of 40 serves with three aces.

Morgan Vlasman made 48 of 73 hits with 18 kills and added 10 digs on the day with one assist. Chelsey Rouse came away with 45 of 53 hits and 12 kills, along with a solo block and two assisted blocks, while handing out eight helpers to her teammates.

Nicole Leuer made 50 of 59 attacks with 14 kills at the net and assisted on one block, while digging out 29 shots and adding one assist. At the serving line, Leuer added 23 of 26 serves with three aces to the Emmetsburg effort.

Nikki Schany came up with 26 of 33 service completions and dug out 14 shots with one assist and Miranda Vlasman made 42 of 54 hits with 15 kills, assisted on one block and dug out four shots.

Hannah Drost would complete 47 of 48 serves on the day with three aces and made eight of nine hits with three kills. Drost dug out 16 shots and dished out 88 set assists to her teammates on the day.

Molli Schmeling would connect on 49 of 53 serves and added 17 digs and Hillary Pico chipped in with 20 of 23 serves, tallying one ace, and dug out 31 shots on the day.

As a team, Emmetsburg made 203 of 223 serving attempts with 10 ace serves for 91 percent accuracy. At the net, the Lady E-Hawks made 305 of 372 hitting attempts and tallied 103 kills, .096 efficiency. The Lady E-Hawks added six assisted blocks and one solo stop, and dug out 128 shots on the day, while making an even 100 set assists.

Emmetsburg travels to Storm Lake tonight (Tuesday) for Lakes Conference play.
