Earn Third Place Finishes

Emmetsburg’s Cross Country teams hosted their own Invitational meet Monday at the Five Island Golf Course and ended up finishing in third place overall in both the girls and boys varsity competitions. The Emmetsburg Middle School girls also ran in Monday’s event and earned solid placings.

For the Lady E-Hawks, Freshmen runners Taylor Reimer and Hadley Egland paced the group, as Reimers would finish in 14th place with a time of 18:51.63, while Egland came in a moment later to place 15th with a time of 18:53.03 to edge out a Spirit Lake runner at the finish line.

Kristi Wurzer would place 22nd with a 21:00.62 clocking, while Vernoika Schoerner was 24th in a time of 22:25.89. Rachel Ruddy finished with a 23:47.55 clocking for 25th place and Maddison Reimer would finish 26th with a time of 25:12,94.

With 28 runners in the girls varsity field on Monday, the Lady E-Hawks would earn a third place finish behind Bishop Garrigan and Spirit Lake in the team standings.

For the boys, Zach Overberg had a strong outing on Monday, finishing in fifth place with his time of 18:34.93 to lead the E-Hawk harriers. Allen Dunnick was close behind, finishing with a 19:02.40 time for eighth place. Austin Dunnick would finish 14th with his time of 19:32.69, while Chad Loomis ran a 19:50.90 for 15th place and Max Jones ran a 20:45.71 time to finish in 20th place.

There were 25 runners in the varsity boys race, with the E-Hawks placing third behind Spirit Lake.

Middle School runers also competed on Monday, with Olivia Smith finishing in sixth place with her time of 14:45.78. Caroline Fantz would turn in a time of 15:22.14, which was good for 11th place, while Jourdaisha Dunnick was 61st with a time of 21:15.95 and Shinaz Kendi finished 62nd with a time of 21:25.39.

The next action for the Emmetsburg harriers will come on Monday, Sept. 20, when all three squads compete in the Humboldt Invitational.
