Lady E-Hawks Finish Third At Own Invitational

Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks started strong but ran into some tough competition at Saturday’s Emmetsburg Invitational Volleyball Tournament. Bishop Garrigan of Algona would win the tournament, finishing with a pool record of 6-2, while Storm Lake took second with a 6-1 pool mark. Emmetsburg was third with a 3-4 mark and Graettinger/Terril rounded out the field with an 0-6 mark in pool play.

Emmetsburg opened the tournament by playing Graettinger/Terril and winning by scores of 21-15 and 21-14. The Lady E-Hawks would fall to Storm Lake in the first game of their match by a 15-21 tally, but rallied to down the Tornadoes 21-12, but came up short in the deciding game of the match, falling 12-15 to the Tornadoes.

Against Bishop Garrigan,

Emmetsburg would fall 21-16 in he first game, and then stumbled in a 21-5 loss.

Playing for the consolation title, the Lady E-Hawks met up with Graettinger/Terril for a second time and would battle the Knights hard before taking a 21-17 and 21-18 win for the third place finish.

Emmetsburg was led by Paige Naig at the net, as she make 34 of 39 hitting attempts with 15 kills and assisted on two blocks. Naig dug out five shots, and at the serving line, connected on 33 of 36 attempts to tallie six aces.

Morgan Vlasman added 31 of 48 hits with 12 kills on the day and four digs, while Nicole Leuer came away with 29 of 36 hits with 12 kills. Leuer added 12 digs to the effort and connected on 17 of 22 serves with seven aces.

Chelsey Rouse would make 23 of 28 hits with seven kills and dished out four assists, while assisting on one block. Nikki Schany added seven of nine hits with a kill and made nine of 11 serves for the Lady E-Hawks.

Hannah Drost would complete 28 of 31 serving attempts with four aces, and made two of three hits, while assisting on one block. Drost dug out 10 shots on the day and handed out 40 assists to her teammates.

Miranda Vlasman made 18 of 30 hits with eight kills, while Kaity Degen added two of four hits to the effort. Whitney Kibbie had three of three hits and one dig.

Molli Schmeling made 19 of 23 serves and added 11 digs, while Hillary Pico added 13 of 14 service completions with three aces and 26 digs. a well as one assist. Halie Cody added eight of nine serves with two aces, a dig and six assists to round out the effort.

Emmetsburg will have a pair of home match ups this week, as they will play host to Spirit Lake on Tuesday night, and then host the Midgettes of Estherville Lincoln Central on Thursday evening to open the  Lakes Conference volleyball campaign.
