Lady E-Hawks Play Hard At Sheldon

SHELDON – Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks finished 2-5 in matches at the Sheldon Volleyball tournament on Saturday. Emmetsburg played Sheldon, Cherokee, Newell-Fonda, Central Lyon, LeMars Gehlen and Remsen Union during the day.

For Emmetsburg Morgan Vlasman would make 33 of 54 hits with 20 kills, assisted on three blocks and had eight digs. Paige Naig added 23 of 35 serves with two aces and hammered  56 of 60 hits with 17 kills, along with six assisted and one solo block and seven digs.

Nicole Leuer added in 21 of 28 serves with two aces and completed 41 of 51 hits with seven kills, three assisted blocks and 11 digs. Chelsey Rouse would come away with 37 of 43 hits and 10 kills on the day, while adding five digs and handing out two assists to her teammates.

Nikki Schany added 14 of 17 hits and made two kills at the net, while assisting on three blocks and making a dig and dishing out two assists.

Miranda Vlasman would have a solid day with 39 of 51 hitting attempts and eight kills at the net, while assisting on three blocks and digging out three shots.

Hannah Drost would come away with 31 of 32 service completions on the day and a pair of ace serves, and added two hits , while digging out 11 shots and handing out 51 assists to her teammates during the tournament.

Halie Cody had a strong serving day as well, connecting on 24 of 27 serving attempts with six ace serves to her credit and also dug out five shots with 10 assists being completed on the day.

Hillary Pico would come away with 24 of 29 service completions on the day and three aces, while digging out a total of 31 shots from her libero position.

Molli Schmeling rounded out the efforts for the Lady E-Hawk varsity on Saturday with 37 of 38 service completions and three aces, along with one hit and 15 digs.

Emmetsburg opened the home season Tuesday by hosting Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy Palmer, and will host its’ own Lady E-Hawk Tournament this coming Saturday, Sept. 11, with play starting at 9 a.m. at the High School Gym.
