Swim Team Earns Split In Opening Double Duel

The Algona Girls Swim Team opened its season with a split of a duel meet Tuesday at Perry. The locals lost to Des Moines Lincoln by a 78-16 score, but defeated Perry by a 58-35 tally.

In action against Des Moines Lincoln, Emmetsburg’s Hannah Priest and the 400 Free Relay team both finished in second place. Against Perry Nicole Kenne had a pair of wins in the 200 and 500 free events. Alyssa Williams of Emmetsburg earned a first place finish in the back stroke and Missy Zadow finished first in the 100 Breast stroke.  Kendra Roethler had a second in the 200 free event and MacKenzie Wilson was second in the 200 IM event. 

The 200 Medley Relay team, the 200 Free and 400 Free Relay teams all finished first and the 200 Free Relay team finished second to round out the efforts on the night.

 “We had four new people in the water for the first time in a meet and they performed well,” noted Head Coach Jim Fisher. “We now have times to work on to get better.”

The next action for the squad will be on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Boone. They will host a home meet at the Algona Family YMCA on Sept. 16.
