By Staff | Sep 2, 2010

REMSEN – Graettinger/Terril opened its 2010 football season with a 25-13 victory over the Rockets of Remsen-Union Friday night. The Knights got a solid offensive performance after shaking off a little rust in putting together 297 total yards in the victory.

“We had some trouble running the ball to start out,” noted Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Karlton Hector. “Thankfully our passing game was good and our defense played well.” Overall I was pleased with how we played and it was good to get that first win.”

Behind quarterback Eric Hatland, the Knights worked their way out to a 19-0 lead at the intermission of the contest, but Remsen-Union had other ideas to start the second half of the contest. The Rockets took the opening kickoff of the half and got a 60 yard return that would set up a two-yard touchdown to cut the score to 19-7.

Graettinger/Terril wouldn’t let the score rattle them, as they took the ensuing kickoff and got a 75 return run by Eric Hatland for a touchdown to retake the momentum and a 25-7 lead that would through the end of the third frame. In the final quarter, Remsen-Union would add a final touchdown for the 25-13 final tally.

Hatland would come up with 37 yards rushing off nine carries, and completed five of 13 passes for 96 yards in the contest for the Knights. Beau Craig would catch four passes from his quarterback for 81 yards, with Colin Leiting adding one catch for 15 yards. Nate Howard would carry the football 32 times to pick up 145 yards, while Heath Marchand added 14 yard off eight rushing attempts and Jeremiah Andrews added three carries for five yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Eric Hatland made nine stops and intercepted a pass for 10 yards, while Beau Craig had eight tackles. Nate Howard added seven tackles to the effort, while Blaze Alesch picked off a pass with a 25 yard return and Trent Lundgren intercepted a pass without a return.

Graettinger/Terril will play their home opener Friday night at Evergreen Park in Graettinger when they play host to the Ventura Vikings in non-district play.
