Runners Open Season At Spencer
SPENCER – The Cross Country season began under near-perfect conditions Tuesday at Spencer for Emmetsburg’s harriers. Coach Dan Dooley’s squads improved on their goal times for the first meet of the year.
For the Lady E-Hawks, Hadley Egland and Rachel Ruddy competed in the Junior Varsity competition on Tuesday, where Egland finished with a time of 22;32, which translated to the30th finishing position, while Ruddy was just three ticks behind with a 22:35 and the 31st place finish.
Other members of the Lady E-Hawk squad ran a practice event at Spencer for times only. Newcomer Taylor Reimer turned in a 21;26 effort, while Kristi ?Wurzer finished with a time of 23.43. Maddison Reimer ran a 25.35, with newcomer Queen Mukami finishing in 25.36 and exchange student Veronika Schoerner finishing with a time of 25.39.
In the varsity boys competition, Emmetsburg was led by senior Allen Dunnick, who turned in a time of 19.39 to earn a 29th place finish. Zach Overberg would come home in 35th place with his time of 20.09 for the E-Hawks.
Austin Dunnick would finish with a time of 20:21 for a 40th place finish and Chad Loomis ran a 21.07, good for the 48th place. Max Jones earned 59th place overall with his time of 23.06 and Dan Pelzer would finish in 61st place in the field with a time of 24.16.
The ?E-Hawk and Lady E-Hawk Cross Country Teams will see their next action on Tuesday, August 31, when they travel to Brooks National Golf Course in Okoboji to compete in the Spirit Lake Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
